Photography Exhibit at the
Waterford Homes Tour & Crafts Exhibit
October 1, 2 & 3, 2010
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Winners 
This popular exhibit takes place upstairs at the Old School on
Fairfax Street. Hundreds of photographs are entered each year by
some of the region's most talented photographers. This is a judged
show and more than $1,000 in prizes are awarded.
The Judges for the 2010 Fair
Marty Kaplan has 20 years of experience in a wide variety of photographic
specialties including corporate and portrait photography. He is
also a fine-art photographer. Mr. Kaplan is a photography instructor
at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
Jack Nevitt has
been a nature photographer since the 1970s. He is the owner of
Virginia Digital Photo Safaris in Northern Virginia, which offers
photo workshops on location in five states. Mr. Nevitt’s
work has appeared in Time Life magazine, Loudoun Magazine, and
other publications.
How to Enter 
The Photography Exhibit is a judged exhibit of framed photographs.
Entries are not juried in advance, but entry forms must be obtained
from the Waterford Foundation and completed before photographs
are delivered for the Exhibit. Send us a request for an entry

Individuals who entered the Photography Exhibit in the past
three years, or who have already requested an application, will
automatically receive the Photography Exhibit Prospectus in July.

Entries in the Photojournalism, Historic
American Building,
and Best Loudoun Photograph categories must represent the scene
without addition or removal of any details.
A $500 cash award is given by Leesburg Today for Best
Loudoun Photograph, which may be in black and white or color and must
have been taken in the past two years, and be a minimum of 8” x
10.” Entries must indicate the location of the image portrayed.
Entries from previous contests will not be accepted. The winning
entry becomes the property of Leesburg Today; the entrant reserves
reproduction rights and may provide a substitute frame.
Commemorating the 40th anniversary of the State Scenic River
Act, the Catoctin Creek category is sponsored by the Friends
of Catoctin Creek, who will purchase the winning entry for $250.
Photographs of Catoctin Creek or Goose Creek will be accepted;
entries must indicate location on the back of the photograph.
Subjects to be considered include the history, flora and fauna,
and recreational uses of the creek.
Two photographs may be entered for judging; three,
if one is in the Best Loudoun Photograph category. Entries must
be labeled to be hung in the correct category. All photographs
submitted for judging must be framed, with screw eyes and wires
(no sawtooth hangers). Names or signatures on photographs must
be covered; masking tape is acceptable.
The entry fee is $15 for one entry or $30 for two;
there is no additional fee for a third entry for the Best Loudoun
Photograph category. Each photographer will receive one 3-day
Exhibitor Ticket to the Waterford Fair.
A 25% commission is charged on all work sold.
At the exhibitor’s request, work submitted for judging
may be withheld from sale. Photographers entering the judged
exhibit may provide additional work for sale, including matted
prints and a limited number of framed photographs. Display units
must be provided by the exhibitor for matted prints.
Photographs must be delivered to the second
floor of the Old School (40222 Fairfax Street, Waterford) on
Friday. September 24, or Saturday, September 25, between
10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Unsold work must be picked up on Sunday, October 3,
between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. or on Monday, October 4, between
10 a.m. and noon.
The Waterford Foundation reserves the right to reject any entry.
The utmost care will be taken of all work submitted.
However, Waterford Foundation, Inc., is not responsible for loss
or damage and assumes no liability for works not collected on
the specified dates. All work is entered at the owner's risk.
All photographs submitted for judging must be framed
and ready to hang, with screw eyes and wires attached. No saw
tooth hangers, please.
As in previous years, there is no limit to the size of the framed
photos you may enter; however, because space is limited, please
select your entries accordingly.
Completed entry forms (see above) must
be submitted with photographs at time of delivery. Please fill
out in black ink two official labels for each photograph. Entries
must be properly labeled to be hung in the correct category.
At exhibitor's request, judged work may be
withheld from sale. A limited number of additional framed photos
may be submitted for sale to be hung as space allows. Display
units must be provided by the exhibitor for the sale of matted
prints. All non-judged work must be for sale.

Best Loudoun Photograph category. Names or signatures on photographs
must be covered. Masking tape is acceptable; it will be removed
after judging.
