Waterford Concert Series 2010

Ever since fire destroyed the Old School auditorium in January 2007, the Waterford Concert Series has been homeless. Musicians, friends, and neighbors are rallying again in 2010 to make possible a brilliant sixteenth season in Waterford and Leesburg. A world-famous guitar-flute duo begins the season March 21, followed in April by a chamber orchestra. Young virtuosi perform in June. The season finale will be a fall grand opera showcase.

The village of Waterford and the surrounding 1,420 acres of farmland were designated in 1970 by the National Park Service as the Waterford National Historic Landmark District. The Waterford Foundation is dedicated to preserving this treasured piece of America’s heritage.

Two beautiful historic churches and the stage on the new campus of Loudoun Country Day School have been provided as temporary concert halls. Thanks to everyone responsible for these fine venues. A special thanks to our sponsors and donors. Support for the concert series contributes to the Waterford Foundation and its effort to rebuild our lost auditorium.

Although more than half the funds needed to break ground on the new Waterford Old School Culture and Education Center have been raised, hard times have slowed fundraising. The Raise the Roof campaign continues; maybe construction will begin in 2010. Meanwhile glorious music is heard. Please join us Sunday afternoons at four to hear outstanding concerts. Watch for special fundraising events to benefit the Raise the Roof campaign.

"The best flute and guitar duo in the world today."—Sergio Assad

Denis Azabagic, guitar, and Eugenia Moliner, flute, have electrified audiences in North America, Europe, and Asia with memorable concerts. Married and based in Chicago, these two grew up in Bosnia and Spain; her Spanish passion and his Balkan sensibility inspire their performances. Denis Azabagic has won eleven international competitions and accolades from Soundboard Magazine, which called him a “virtuoso with flawless technique.” Cavatina Duo has four CDs out to date, and the pair has been interviewed and praised in major music publications. Their repertoire includes music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and contemporary periods.
